Today, me and my friends visited the University of Birmingham encampments. We decided after Saturday’s protest that we wanted to do something for the students. We’re seriously proud of them. So we said we would visit them and bring them food.
I contacted a friend who actually spent a night at the encampment when it first started. As she obviously knew people there and I told her we wanted to provide food for the students. She gave me the number of one of the leaders of the encampment so I contacted her. Initially we wanted to deliver early, but they have a food schedule as they’re obviously getting food donations and they asked if we could provide food later than we planned. I checked with my group and we were all ok with this.
So today, we went shopping for them and took some snacks. Fruit, crisps, chocolate and a variety of juice which we made sure wasn’t on the boycott list.
We also ordered pizza and chips and took them straight over to the encampment.
I have to admit, I felt very safe in what has been dubbed ‘Little Gazas’ by a US senator.
One of my friends was already there as she was visiting the students. We provided hot food and snacks and thankfully they were happy. A few of the students were vegan and we made sure we catered for them by taking vegan cheese to the shop and providing vegan pizzas.
What was really good was the fact that Muslim students at the encampment, went to pray before they ate the food. It was lovely to see. The students were very grateful, and I hope to visit them again with more food.
Honestly, I’ve never been more proud of GenZ. They will help end the genocide.
Also in other news, Aston University also started their encampment today. Unfortunately, Aston University threatened legal action if they didn’t disband by 8pm even referring to the encampments as an ‘occupation’. It’s ironic that they class it as that, yet they keep investing in Israel! A nice touch was that there was a banner which read Kafr Ana Village. This was the name of a Palestinian village which was erased in 1948. Now in 2024 it has been Established again.
Today was a big day, as Nottingham students won their case in the High Court to keep their encampment.
Can we please stop referring to them as encampments? Let’s call them what they are, which is settlements! The students are settlers! But I guess the genocide enablers don’t like that word?
