Today I went to the theatre and watched a play for the first time since last year! I have to admit this is the first play I’ve gone to without actually reading the synopsis. And to be honest, I went because it was a free ticket π that my friend managed to get her hands on. Thanks Somi… π
Now it was a unique one today. I fell asleep at 7.30am and the show was for 1pm. I was exhausted so I wasn’t sure I’d enjoy it to be honest. However, I turned up on time. Yay! Barely. I’m very tardy. It’s really awful.
So this play started in Australia π¦πΊ where the Tamil Sri Lankan π±π° were performing the last rights of their grandmother.
Now I don’t want to spoil the show by giving anything away BUT as a South Asian the show was very funny at certain points. You really did get a lot of laughs there if you’re Asian I believe you will laugh. And that’s literally any type of Asian whether South or East asian π π§
Anyway after the first act, we had a vegetarian snack provided to us. It was boiled rice, daal and a piece of naan. As VIP seatπΊ holders we also got a drink.
When the second act started, we were in Sri Lanka and we got to learn all about the Tamil Tigers π
and their fight to try and get an independent Tamil Sri Lanka. There was corruption in the government and even another death. This is a story of love and politics and corruption. It’s definitely not to be missed. The cast was stellar and mentions of Skype and Air-conditioning were hilarious. I felt the Characters of both Radha and Siddharta pronounced Sid Arthur were very reminiscent of the kind of relationship I have with my own family. I wouldn’t usually upload a review especially on the day but this was my third best theatre performance that I’ve seen and its only on for a week in Birmingham! Get yourself tickets! You will laugh loads π
Oh yeah and you might also spot a celebrity! I did! We saw Niamh Blackshaw from Hollyoaks. You might know her better as Juliet Nightingale or Juliet Quinn. And no I didn’t bother her. She was there to enjoy herself as was I.
I felt like a tourist today in my own city. I saw the Commonwealth Bull and enjoyed walking πΆββοΈ through town although I’ve injured my back so I was slow. And I finished up at Tim Hortons because who can resist a French Vanilla?
