So, the last couple of month’s have been awful for me. What with the weather changing and seasonal depression 😭… I was pretty happy in September, November got progressively worse and now it’s December.
I finally handed in my dissertation. 10,000 words of creative writing. I have like 22,000 words for my novel so far! I plan to have it in three parts within one book. Right now my writing is quite dark. There’s a definite psychological element which I had always planned but it’s quite graphic with other things. A friend read a part because I wasn’t sure how it read and I got a ‘This is wild’ and ‘Very interesting and hard to read’ – Hopefully that’s a good thing. My supervisor read the same part and one of his comments was ‘The content is engaging, if extreme and disturbing’ so I think that’s good because it’s definitely meant to be both of those things. Surprisingly this is just about 1/2 of the first part. It’s 100% going to guess worse. As a writer it was genuinely difficult to write though because I was constantly second guessing myself and I haven’t written anything quite so dark before. It took me to quite a dark place mentally and I genuinely needed a break. I was glad to submit it but it was the technical part that I genuinely struggled with. I was originally thinking of applying for my PhD immediately BUT I need a break from education I think. I will still apply but after a break. Your girl wants to be Dr Farman even if she isn’t using a scalpel.
