So on Sunday 22nd of May, my personal Instagram account was hacked. I have no idea why it was hacked but they uploaded a video of me… claiming I turned 2k into 20k… like 1)… Why would I advertise that? Its just asking to get robbed and 2) I wish I had 2k to invest randomly… Surely a fortune like that is best kept as a secret?
I then received an email advising my Instagram email was changed… as I went to secure my account, the hackers changed my Instagram username slightly. So I was stuck.
I then received a call on WhatsApp from a foreign number… I ignored this call. I then received messages on WhatsApp. It was the hacker or hackers. At this point it might have been a ton of them. They advised my account was blocked and offered to assist me in getting it back. At this point, I had already followed steps to verify my identity with @Instagram so advised them of this.
They claimed Insta wouldn’t be able to recover the account… at 3am on the 23rd I got my account back. Phew crisis averted.
In the time it took Insta to respond I received an email purporting to be from Insta… 1) it was in my junk mail and 2) the English was terrible. I contacted those who had liked the post to advise them of the hack. These hackers also accepted over 500+ follow requests! I had to remove everyone. But all is well in my life now. I’ve had a bloody eventful week from Graduating 🎓 to being hacked!
UPDATE: They rehacked me, so I decided maybe this is a sign to let go. At the moment I don’t have a personal Instagram now but it’s kind of OK.
